Things getting real interesting in Div 2 with top teams again losing points ensuring a more balanced looking table.Team of the week Scuba FC upsetting Those guys in a thriller while game of the week was no doubt the game between Spray N Wipe and the Black Eagles. Not to say the other two games were boring, both ending in a draw. The Internationals getting their third draw of the season, very unusual after only 5 rounds and Froosh finally get points on the table after their BYE.
Game 1. Spray N Wipe vs Black Eagles : The Battle of 4th vs 5th was always going to be an entertaining matchup, but nobody expected the match to develop into an absolute classic contest between two evenly matched sides. The Black Eagles came out firing early and netted their first goal through Johnny Kelesh less than 90 seconds into the match. Seeking to create a clear gap between the top 4 and the rest of the competition the Black Eagles doubled their advantage soon after, a miscommunication at the back by Spray n Wipe and the Black Eagles swooped, making a decisive intercept then pouncing on the loose ball and tapping it the empty net (This goal is viewable at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=219288118126126 courtesy of Futsal Homebush.) Spray n Wipe struggled to maintain possession as the Eagles continued to look threatening in front of goal, maintaining good periods of possession with fast paced passing in their attacking third. In the closing minutes of the first half Matthew Zappia hit a firm strike through traffic which found the net and gave Spray n Wipe confidence into the break. The change of ends brought about a sustained stalemate, with both goalkeepers performing admirably. The frequent switches and unique keeping styles of the Black Eagles pressured spray n wipe who had a shot hit both posts before bouncing out to safety, meanwhile at the other end Kyse Areda came up with a quality low save one on one to deny the Black Eagles. An incredible turn of speed saw Tom ‘Ronaldo’ Lok get in behind the defence and square it up for David Astalosh to bring the scores level at 2-2. This sparked an intense futsal frenzy as the Black Eagles re-established their lead immediately with a skilful trick creating space for an amazing finish to hit the top corner at the back post from a very, very narrow angle. From that ensuing kickoff Oskar Frankl ran direct to and scored yet another equaliser, cancelling out the eagles magical moment only seconds before. With 3 goals in less than a minute, the action was suddenly nonstop and the atmosphere was electric. It would not stop there though, the Eagles pushed forward again seeking to wrestle back the momentum only to be broken against, finally a pass found its way around the goalkeeper and Francis Basbas hammered home. Tom lok scored from long range in the final stages, establishing a two goal cushion for the men in white, as they capped off a tremendous comeback in a match that was entertaining from the first whistle. Final result Spray n Wipe 5 defeated Black Eagles 3. Match report compliments of David Astalosh
Game 2. Hard Core Noobs vs Last Place: Last place met the leaders HCN hoping to change their luck, while HCN wanted to shake that bitter draw from last week. HCN bagging the 1st goal thanks to John Ahn after a nice piece of play. Ahn added another one minutes later and completed his brace, this time no dodgy match report to deny his glory. After the second goal HCN parked the bus and resorted to aimless long balls. last Place took advantaged and scored one back. HCN scored the third goal, but it was disallowed due to an “alleged push”. The unavoidable was yet to come, Last Place scored after the HCN keeper was left against 2 players. last Place unlucky not to win it at the end, an effort hitting the post, and alleged hand ball claims “wiped away” by the ref. At the end, déjà-vu for HCN, their second 2-2 in a row after a 2-0 lead in what is a very tight top 4. Match report compliments of Basil Turk
Game 3:Scuba FC vs Those Guys Again: Absolute ripper of a game, Those looking dominant in the first half, playing an unusually physical game, accumulating their five fouls in the first half however being spared the the 6th foul before the end of the game. A controversial goal by Jason after a slide at the keeper and then a nice worked goal volleyed in by David TSe gave Those Guys the early lead, however Scuba coming back strong with a great left footed strike by prodigy Sinan Soyoz. The game continued at the same ferocious pace in the second half with both teams getting physical at times , some great ball play and some chances missed until a great worked goal by the Old Fella Darren Reynolds gave Scuba the lead about 5 minutes from full time.A minute later Darren Reynolds sent off for fouling the player without the ball, making it the first red card of the tournament. Scuba defending frantically in the last few minutes defended their 3-2 win, while those Guys are in danger of falling into a slump losing two in a row.
Game 4: Internationals vs Snipers: Internationals starting positive and confident, developing a well structured and in control game were able to start the game well on top scoring three consecutive goals, 2 of them to Timmy Collins, one of them can be viewed by clicking on to this link http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=219328571455414 . First half finished with the Internationals up 3-0 and the Snipers looking like they were in acceptance of the loss. Snipers starting the second half with a more physical approach, too physical at times and very lucky to get away with some of them as the referee very eager to get out of their in his last game of the night maybe had lost concentration a little. The Internationals getting frustrated with the referee forgetting the golden rule of the game which is “play the whistle” soon lost their concentration as well allowing front man Kutluhan Yilmaz to score a hat trick. Final score was 3-3 , making it the third draw for the Internationals.
